Design by GB is Greg's web development company. It's young and still working on getting fully up to speed with the state of technology.
It all started in 10-06 when Greg purchased a copy of Macromedia Studio. The original thought was simply to make a website for the new church plant, True North. Since then I have made several more, each one becoming a little more sophisticated than the last. I am continually challenging myself to greater heights just to see if I can meet my own challenges.
My style lately has been XHTML transitional code with full CSS styling. No HTML style tags here (how mid-90's). Future ideas for expansion: Java & Flash... just need to come up with the hours to learn the systems.
My projects:
- True North
- 4/07: True North is the name of the church plant that Tracy and I are involved with. Dan Vandock came to me with a powerpoint layout and said he wanted a layout to look "something like this". It definitely was beyond what I could do (since I couldn't do anything at that point) It ended up being pretty cool and even got me into podcasting.
- Update 6/09: Just launched True North v3.0. The new site is a content managed system based on Joomla! This allows me to focus more on the business of designing new while allowing others to not only edit but publish new content within their granted privileges. The new site features a member directory (for members ONLY) and RSS news feeds.
- Share it with Joy!
- 5/07: What a better place to experiment with new web design skills than my wife's company. It was my first foray into 100% CSS styling. I really liked the results.
- Crossover Custom Guitars
- 12/07: What a fun project - custom guitars! Will came to me with an idea to show off his line of custom guitars. I came back with a different idea for presenting his work. I was very pleased with the final product on this one!
- Update, Fall 07: Added a blog to this site. How much easier could updating your own website be? Now I have an excuse to buy books on PHP & MYSQL (as if I needed one...)
- Author Will Hinton
- 7/08: Here is my latest challenge : Will wrote a book - let's sell it on the web! It's kind of the quick way to get into web selling through Paypal. I've even got a sweet little Java app to read some page excerpts. I'm pretty proud since it's my first completely hand-written code that actually works for something more than passing an excercise in the book.
- Update 5/09: Updated the site for Will's second book, Rocky Mountain Odyssey. Most of the software works the same as always, but a facelift to match the new color scheme is certainly a nice touch.
- Weeping Willow Florist
- 6/09: Officially launched a simple website for Weeping Willow Florist shop in Pettisville. The really cool feature for this site is a custom javascript application that changes the background theme based on the season. The tree comes in grey by default and then the leaves are colored based on the season of the year. It's like a website that updates itself every 3 months! Another cool feature was the integration of a Picasa photo album into the site. This allows the staff to update the site's slideshow without having to break into the site code.
What does the future hold? Hopefully a lot more exciting websites coming soon. Would you like me to look at doing a website for you? Drop me a line and you could be the next website I do. |
